What do I need before starting setup?
Before beginning at Ledger.com/start, ensure you have: your Ledger hardware wallet, the included USB cable, a computer or smartphone with internet access, and about 10 minutes of focused time. Most importantly, prepare a secure environment where you can write down your recovery phrase without being observed.
Is my recovery phrase really that important?
Your 24-word recovery phrase is the master key to your cryptocurrency holdings. Whoever possesses these words can access your funds. Ledger® devices are designed so your private keys never leave the secure chip, making the recovery phrase your only backup. Store it securely offline, never digitally, and never share it with anyone.
Can I use my Ledger without Ledger Live®?
While Ledger Live® is the recommended interface, your Ledger® device can work with compatible third-party wallets. However, Ledger.com/start requires Ledger Live® for initial setup as it includes critical security checks and firmware updates. After setup, advanced users may explore other wallet interfaces while still benefiting from the hardware security.
